All incoming students will need to complete the Analytical Writing Placement Exam prior to coming to Bear Facts orientation. (see information below)

Entry Level Writing Requirement,
UC Analytical Writing Placement Examination Information

The Analytical Writing Placement Exam (AWPE) was offered state-wide on Saturday, May 9, 2009. It is expected that students will have taken the AWPE prior to attending Bear Facts Orientation. Everyone needs to take this test, if you have not done so, and this test date has passed, you will need to contact the University Writing Program (see link below). The AWPE will not be given in July during Bear Facts Orientation. The English Language Writing Requirement (ELWR) must be met or the AWPE must be taken in order to determine appropriate enrollment in English composition. Students who have not taken the AWPE before July may be severely limited in their registration for Fall classes during Bear Facts Orientation. For more information on the AWPE please refer to http://elwr.ucr.edu/placement.html.  For any questions on the ELWR requirement, please refer to the website http://uwp.ucr.edu/.

Notice regarding Placement Exams

Students who need to complete course work to address University course preparedness need to take the appropriate placement exam in order to have time to take summer courses to satisfy University requirements. The earlier you know your placement examination results, the more summer options you will have. Failure to complete the placement examination requirements can result in you not being permitted to register for fall classes.

Placement examination fees for most tests will be applied to the student's fall quarter bill. If the fee will not be applied to the student's fall quarter bill, payment instructions will be given at the test. Students do not need to pay for exams on the test day.

PLEASE NOTE: If special accommodations for testing are needed due to a disability, please contact Services for Students with Disabilities directly at specserv@ucr.edu. Appropriate documentation of need for accommodations must be provided prior to approval of testing arrangements.
